For wherever there is jealousy and selfish ambition, there you will find disorder and evil of every kind. (James 3:16)
The Book of James 3 is entitled Controlling the Tongue. It applies to my life as a disciple of the Lord Jesus, teacher to my Sunday school kids, mother to Gabe, friend to others, and a writer (online and offline). Praise God for the proud cannot stand before Him, it means my pride will not be able to stand over His grace and my love for Him. A daily submission and worship will help me lose myself in His holiness. Praise God!
Reminds me of a verse I remember well… Proverbs 16:18. Whew. Praying for a better, stronger, humble walk by God’s grace :) A beautiful morning from this side.
Last Sunday’s message, God is in charge: Submit to His will, reminded me of diligently in seeking God FIRST everyday. Real quality quiet time for me begins in the morning and must have the time and place for me to read, write, and pray. I thank God for always blessing our desire to meet with Him. God delights in my life (yours, too) and I praise Him for embracing anyone who wants to spend time with Him.
This morning is an extra comforting start because I got to spend quality time with God at my friend’s new cafe. It’s the old Mocha Blends, now Coffee Grounds :) It opened about a week ago and it’s my 1st day to visit.
As always, being early is a wonderful thing! Since God’s work in my life, I love Mondays and it still proves to be this awesome. I arrived at my friend’s cafe with just me and the employees there. I had enough time to look around, see improvements, what’s new, and what can be exciting to share. Being the 1st customer, I got to pick a good spot, too :) The employees there are also being discipled and it truly adds up to their service. They are humble and happy people making the place more comforting aside from the smell of coffee and food! Haha
The menu has more to offer and the place was made bigger :)
What caught my attention? PANCAKES. I was really hungry and I prayed to have a delightful breakfast with coffee. I got cappuccino and pancakes topped with blueberries and butter.
I was surprised to see that there were 4 stuffed, delicious pancakes. I stayed there for more than 2 hours but I was not able to finish them. The coffee did help in making me easily full. Haha. As I type right now I am eating the rest of the pancakes :) Yum!
My stay there was with several important purposes 1) Meet with God and hear His Word 2) Have enough peace and space to pray, read, and write 3) Make use of the time to check my walk 4) Have breakfast 5) Support my friend. I am blessed to have those done calmly and joyfully today. Another answered prayer ❤
Included in this morning’s list of goals is to look into the Scripture used for yesterday’s worship service. So happy to have the time to read them + other verses I need to reflect with… Like those in the Book of James.
Look here, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we are going to a certain town and will stay there a year. We will do business there and make a profit.” How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone. What you ought to say is, “If the Lord wants us to, we will live and do this or that.” Otherwise you are boasting about your own plans, and all such boasting is evil. Remember, it is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it. (James 4:13-17)
So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do. (Ephesians 5:15-17)
2 Samuel 5:17-25 David Conquers the Philistines
Esther 4 Mordecai Requests Esther’s Help
Luke 5:1-11 The First Disciples
He walked away, about a stone’s throw, and knelt down and prayed, “Father, if you are willing, please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.” Then an angel from heaven appeared and strengthened him. He prayed more fervently, and he was in such agony of spirit that his sweat fell to the ground like great drops of blood. (Luke 22:41-44)
It helped a lot that I got to pray there as I read and look into those chapters. I was able to confess to God both conscious and unconscious sins made, I was able to ask Him questions, write down realizations, thank Him for sustaining me and rebuking me, pray for others, and ask for His grace to strengthen me more as I need to learn to constantly trust and obey :’) I was really able to calmly enjoy a morning quiet time today. Praise God.
This week’s goal includes finishing my 2nd Max Lucado book (In the Eye of the Storm), a birthday gift from 2012. It is one of the most powerful books I’ve read. It shares about the events in the life of the Lord Jesus and how I can trust Him in the eye of the storm. A book I received in God’s perfect time. Again, thank you, Nanci, for giving me this book!
I have mixed feelings in finishing this book because I love holding the same book for a long time (thank God there’s the Bible!) but I have a new book to learn from this 2014. In time for this pruning season…
A book by Jerry Bridges, author of The Pursuit of Holiness. This book is my discipler’s Christmas and 2014 gift for me and her other disciples. We’ll be using this as our group guide this coming year. I got all emotional when I saw it because pruning is a lot of heart work I can’t escape and don’t want to escape. Going through it with the Lord Jesus is always comforting and the books He sends add fun to it :’) Also excited to write, remember, and share. I got an affordable and cute new journal for another wonderful year!
Oh what a Monday AND it isn’t even done yet :) With all of the blessings in the past, this day, and the coming days, my hope is for me to be more dependent and strong in the Lord Jesus.
There is so much to share I can share to you here BUT I encourage you to experience God’s love, discipline, and glory yourself. Life is not life without the One who can redeem. The best things in life are the eternal, God has prepared the way for us :) May 2013 be the year for you and your home to begin the wonderful walk with the Lord Jesus.
But Christ, as the Son, is in charge of God’s entire house. And we are God’s house, if we keep our courage and remain confident in our hope in Christ. (Hebrews 3:6)
If you are already walking by faith, with the Lord Jesus as your Master and Savior, praise God! May you always commit your thoughts, words, and actions to God, seeking to please Him above all throughout your lifetime :) May we testify the purpose of the Gospel.
GOD BLESS US ALL ❤
Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it. (Hebrews 2:1)
We all know people that this has happened to. There is no urgency. No vigilance. No focused listening or considering or fixing of their eyes on Jesus. And the result has not been a standing still, but a drifting away.
That is the point here: there is no standing still. The life of this world is not a lake. It is a river. And it is flowing downward to destruction. If you do not listen earnestly to Jesus and consider him daily and fix your eyes on him hourly, then you will not stand still, you will go backward. You will float by.
Drifting is a deadly thing in the Christian life. And the remedy to it, according to Hebrews 2:1, is, “Pay close attention to what you have heard.” That is, consider what God is saying in his Son Jesus. Fix your eyes on what God is saying and doing in the Son of God, Jesus Christ.
This is not a hard stroke to learn so that we can swim against the stream of sin and indifference. The only thing that keeps us from swimming like this is our sinful desire to float with other interests.
But let us not complain that God has given us a hard job. Listen, consider, fix the eyes — this is not what you would call a hard job description. It is not a job description. It is a solemn invitation to be satisfied in Jesus so that we do not get lured downstream by deceitful desires.
If you are drifting today, one of the signs of hope that you are born again is that you feel pricked for this, and there is a rising desire in your heart to turn your eyes on Jesus and consider him and listen to him in the days and months and years to come.
— John Piper, The Danger of Drifting from the Word
Oh Lord Jesus… It hurts to wait for the unknown and even for what is known but it’s most comforting to remember and trust that You know best. Thank You for today’s message :)
